Communication

If we are asked to sum up the problems of communication in a single phrase, we use this quote by George Bernard Shaw

‘The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place’

Thanks George – that really says it all.

We all think we are great communicators and that we get our messages received and understood with strong consistency. Unfortunately, that is typically the illusion. We send messages out in our preferred codes and methods, expecting them to be crystal clear to everyone else.

We spend our lives communicating and you’d think by now we would have got the hang of it, yet we persist in using the same old strategies harder, but expecting different results. So, why is poor communication so often cited by staff, customers, suppliers, friends and family as a major cause of problems, breakdown and failure?

Effective communication is critical to success in all aspects of life, whether that’s business, personal, relationships or something else. We work in teams and groups, market to customers, make presentations, share ideas and a myriad of other activities that rely on clear communication. Making that communication effective is a key challenge.

How prepared are you for that challenge?

How effective are your people?
