Quite frankly, these improved business results are available for everyone, yet not everyone chooses to engage. These figures are the results from the latest Gallup global engagement survey and show the differences in performance between businesses in the upper quartile of employee engagement levels and those in the lower quartile. Its exciting stuff isn’t it, and you are probably already wondering in which quartile your business sits.
How engaged are your people?
Gallup’s latest report on The State of the Global Workplace 2011 identifies levels of employee engagement and subsequent wellbeing of workers from over 120 countries.
Many business leaders and owners find the figures quite shocking. They suggest that, at best, over 80% of the workforce in a business are neutral performers. This frequently means they simply turn up, do what they are told and then go home. In many cases, this approach is inadvertently encouraged by the leadership and management of the business. Busy managers find it expedient to simply tell people what to do. It makes them feel more in control. They end up keeping most of the ownership for themselves. A lot of talent is lost or wasted.
There is clearly more work to be done.
